working part-time is great. too bad classes will start soon. sigh.
i’ve been working 3 days a week, spending the other 2 at my sister’s school, helping her get her classroom ready for the school year. i’m in charge of the bulletin board. it’s very exciting, of course. and UBER-important, not to mention. you can see my life is full of thrills and excitement these days.
i am very overwhelmed at the thought that i might have my own class a year from now. i have no idea what that would mean for me, and i haven’t even decided if i want to teach music or a regular class. i have no idea where i want to do my student teaching, no idea where i want to try to get a job when i’m certified, no idea about much of anything, really. some of these things will have some dependence on what the situation is with me and the boyfriend by then, but it’s difficult to make decisions when you’ve no guarantees about the future, regardless of how much you think you’ll still be going strong. you just never know what may happen. and that’s the beauty and the stinging truth of life.
there’s a brand new teacher across the hall from my sister: she’s been hired as the kindergarten bilingual teacher, and last week when i was there, her classroom was almost completely empty besides her furniture. i felt terrible for her, because she clearly very overwhelmed and moderately clueless, which one can understand, as she’s never taught before, and she’s from Peru, where all of her family and her husband still are at this time. she’s pretty much alone here. so i told my mom about her, and my mom went to help her fix up her classroom on friday while i was helping my sister across the hall.
yesterday i happened upon this teacher supply store that someone had mentioned a couple of weeks ago, and they just happened to be closing and moving to another location, so everything was 75% off. i bought some things for my sister, for the bilingual teacher, and for myself. i spent $50.00, which means i got $200.00 worth of stuff for $50.00! yay me.
i got all kinds of crap, like reward stickers, crap to hang on the walls, lesson plan books, handwriting tablets, notepads, nametags, some books on teaching methods, etc. all in all, it was a really great deal for everything.
i wish i had something more earth-shattering to say. i DID get my haircut yesterday at the Paul Mitchell School (thanks, H!!!). i got all-over color (highlights, be gone!) (i’m really dark brown now) and a cut for a total of $40.00! my hair is so freaking thick, she had to get more color twice while she was applying the dye, and she was supposed to charge me $8.00 for each extra ounce, but she didn’t! yay! $40.00 for a color and cut that is just as good as when i spend $130.00 at toni & guy. that’s what i’m talking about.
well…i think i’ll eat something now. last sunday i ate this weight watcher’s southwest chicken bowl, and it was ok. but then i woke up at 2:30 in the morning and had to vomit. so that was not so good. i was sick all monday, but then tuesday i was good as new. really weird. i’m glad it was so short, whatever it was.
my boss at work and i decided to get some sandwich stuff for the office so that we could save some money and not go out for lunch everyday, and when the president came back from out of town last week, he said he would pay for all the groceries so that everyone could eat lunch there if they wanted! rock on. so instead of splitting the costs between the two of us, we all get to eat for free and i’ll get reimbursed for the stuff i brought up there on thursday. pretty awesome.
i’m hoping to get my new laptop on friday. i’ll let you know how it goes.
also, i’m getting $10,000 in loans for school, which makes me want to scrunch up my face in nervousness, because who wants to pay back loans? Not me. But hey, i figure i’ll just use the subsidized first to pay my tuition and then put all the leftover (and the un-subsidized) in my savings account so maybe it can accrue a little interest, and just move it to my checking account if i ever need some of it. so yeah.
thursday night i’m singing at some “private party” at neiman marcus. no clue. i’m singing Over the Rainbow (in a really high freaking key) and a duet with this 16 year old kid who is so talented, “Worlds Apart” from Big River. good times. i hate how disorganized this theatre is that i’ve been performing in. they’re starting to drive me insane. i’d like to audition at some other places, but i don’t know if i’ll have any time to go to rehearsals when i’m in 4 classes and working 20 hours a week. ???
i’m going to go now. this was a very boring post. whoo!

I get my hair cut at the Aveda Institute and I love, love, love it. I always get the best cuts. I think the students are more enthusiastic to cut your hair and willing to try new things…Anyway, I am glad your cut was inexpensive and glad it rocks! I want to see some pics!
